Moxibustion
MoxIbustion is a traditional Chinese medicine that uses Moxa (Chinese Mugwort) for both physical and energetic well-being. The Moxa is burned in a wooden box on the skin. Moxa penetrates deeply allowing strength and healing to your QI (life force) as well as to the physical organs themselves. It especially works well with the spleen which is relied upon heavily in pregnancy to support growth of baby, placenta, and increased blood volume. When a woman goes through the birth experience, whether it was a "normal" birth or a complicated birth it creates deficiency in the spleen as a result of blood loss. Moxibustion tonifies the spleen which will ultimately clean and *build your blood and since breastmilk is made from blood Moxa can increase milk supply. Moxa also brings necessary warmth to the postpartum body which is vital for healthy digestion, and healing. MoxIbustion treatments would ideally happen 5 times within the first 3 weeks postpartum. If that is not possible, anytime within the first year is beneficial.

What Happens During a Moxibustion Session?
-
First, we will discuss your health concerns, symptoms, and treatment goals.
-
Next, you’ll lie down (fully clothed only exposing the area of focus) on the massage table.
-
Then I will apply the moxa box to the area of focus.
-
The warmth from the burning moxa penetrates deeply, encouraging circulation, relaxing muscles, and enhancing the flow of qi (life energy).
-
Sessions are extremely relaxing, with a warm and soothing sensation experienced at the treated points.
-
Once the treatment is complete, I will extinguish the moxa safely.
-
The session will conclude with a brief discussion about the effects, aftercare tips, or additional treatments to complement the session.
